Just a Blink

“Mister Cacao, I hate to intrude, but I wish to speak with you...” Opal found these words leaving her mouth before she had time to fully think about them. She had been practicing for this for weeks, telling herself it was okay, he wouldn't hate her. He looked up from his book, smiling lightly over to the Starred girl. “ I'm all ears, Opal. Now what is wrong?” He pat the mat next to him, setting down his book.  She felt her heart beat faster, gosh how was she going to say this, to not mess up around one who  made her head spin. “May I have a hug?” She asked sitting down, she knew it was stupid, but it was the best excuse she could make at that moment. “Since when do you have to ask? Your my friend, and you can always have hugs.” He pulled her close as he said those words ad never before had words brought her such sorrow and joy at the same time. Back in the monastery almost everything was chosen for her, what position she would be best at, what she should do, they even had a mate picked out for her back home, so why was it that she found her veins reaching for a human, a being that would live almost no time compared to her, a blink of the eye, and he'd be gone. Was it his soft skin, the fact that he was so fragile and yet so brave or was it the strong spirit he seemed to have, maybe it was all three.

“ Now, what did you really wish to tell me?” His question mirrored her own, what would she tell him, and would he be better off not knowing. “ I have been meaning to tell you this for a long time, I-I do believe I-I have found myself, falling for you Cacao, I pray you do not think any less of me.”As soon as the words stopped she was certain that she had either killed him or herself because silence as all she could hear. Then he did the unthinkable. He turned her head and kissed her right on the forehead, above where her missing eye would have been. A deep blush filled her cheeks and a few tears pooled in her eye. “ Why would I think any less of you, that would make me the worst kind of person- a Hypocrite.”  His smile looked genuine enough, but sadness clouded his forest green eyes, she could almost feel the pain. “ A time shall come when this world will judge us for this, but I believe that we may be strong enough together.” She looked into his eyes, smiling, and hoping that her words would sink in If not, she feared she might not ever speak to him again from the embarrassment. “ I understand,  Opal. We'll be strong for each other.” He pulled her back into his warm arms, and she realized that even if he only would like a blink, it would be the best blink of her life.
